Psychology

Psychology is the scientific study of the mind and how it dictates and influences our behaviour, from communication and memory to thought and emotion.

It's about understanding what makes people tick and how this understanding can help us address many of the problems and issues in society today.

People seek the help and support of psychologists for all sorts of problems, and psychologists employ their knowledge and expertise to help in many areas of society, such as:

  • coping with bereavement
  • dealing with trauma
  • understanding and dealing with psychosis and schizophrenia
  • preventing and overcoming depression
  • dealing with stress, and anxiety
  • speeding up recovery from brain injury
  • helping to stop or prevent bullying
  • improving performance both at school and in the workplace
  • analysing and improving athletic performance
  • Eating disorders and body dysmorphia

To find out more about specific areas of psychology and how they might benefit you contact one of our resident Psychologists.

Life has its ups and downs and doesn't tend to go in a straight line. Stress, worries and low mood can get in the way of making the most of your precious time and can disrupt connections with those you care about. The past may cloud the present; there may be cycles from which you cannot break free.  Perhaps you would like to explore with me how to overcome your mental health problems within psychological therapy? Please consider if you want to walk with me on your therapeutic journey.

I am a kind and caring person; I love my job, and for many years have been offering psychological therapies. I qualified as a clinical psychologist from the University of London (UCL) in 2004 and am now a Consultant Clinical Psychologist in Community Adult Mental Health. I became fully accredited with the BABCP in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy in 2012 as a therapist, and then in 2021 as a supervisor. I recently completed a Postgraduate certificate in Enhanced CBT (Supervision and Training) with the University of Oxford. I am a Chartered Clinical Psychologist and Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society; I am registered as a Practitioner Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council.

    • Dr Tracey Grandfield

I am a clinical psychologist registered with the Health Care Professionals Council (HCPC) and with the British Psychological Society (BPS). I have experience working across various settings in the NHS and private practice. Currently, I provide psychological therapy to adults and adolescents.

Some people seek support in order to process a particular issue such as a bereavement or recent life event, others might want longer term therapy to work through and understand ongoing difficulties such as depression, anxiety, chronic health conditions, or to think about childhood trauma. I work integratively with clients, much of my work is informed by psychodynamic, systemic and existential approaches.

I am interested in helping you to develop an understanding of why you feel the way that you do and helping you to understand the influence of your life experiences, within a supportive therapeutic relationship.

      Please contact me via email initially and we can arrange a time for a brief telephone conversation;

Do you experience feelings such as loneliness, depression or anxiety that overwhelm you at times, or a sense of unfulfillment in your life that you find hard to place?

I am a medical psychotherapist in private practice in Birmingham. I provide psychodynamic psychotherapy for individuals which can help with a range of emotional and relational difficulties. These difficulties can present themselves as common mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, prolonged bereavement, low self-esteem, struggles with identity, obsessional behaviour and/or eating difficulties. At other times, they can present themselves as feelings that can feel overwhelming or feelings of unfulfillment that is hard to place.

I have more than 10 years of experience in mental health and have trained as a psychiatrist sub-specialising in psychotherapy. I have worked across a range of mental health services including some years in an NHS Specialist Psychotherapy Service. My most recent appointment in the NHS is as a Consultant Medical Psychotherapist for a Complex Needs Service. My experience mean that I have experience in working with a range of both common and complex mental health presentations.
