Reflexology

Reflexology

The origins of reflexology can be traced back to ancient Chinese & Egyptian times. It is a holistic therapy which treats you on a physical, emotional and spiritual level.

It is a safe, non-invasive, natural therapy that stimulates the body’s self healing properties. It helps to restore and maintain the body’s equilibrium.

Reflexology is based on the concept that the body is divided into zones which run from top to bottom, ending in the hands and feet. These reflex areas correspond to all parts of the body and are arranged in such a way as to form a map of the body in the feet. Energy is constantly flowing through these zones and it is thought that illness occurs when these energy channels in the body become blocked, causing damage. Precise massage of these reflex points in the feet helps to unblock the energy channels. Having the body so represented in the feet offers a means of treating the whole body. The therapy allows not just the symptoms to be treated, but also the causes.

What happens during a treatment?

The practitioner will discuss your medical history with you to ensure that the treatment is suitable and personal to you. You will be then seated in a recliner, having removed socks and shoes. the therapist will then use the tips and sides of her thumbs and fingers to apply firm but gentle pressure to all the reflex points. The whole of each foot is treated, hence treating the whole body.
You may find that some points are slightly tender when treated. This may indicate that the corresponding body parts are imbalanced and not working at full efficiency. Massaging these reflexes will encourage better function and harmony.

Each treatment will last about 45 minutes and will leave you feeling relaxed and refreshed.

Reflexology during Pregnancy:

Reflexology is well known as a relaxing, health improving therapy, but did you know that it has special benefits in pregnancy?

Our practitioners have experience in treating women who wish to improve their general health, aid relaxation & maximize their chances of having a pregnancy free from complications.

Reflexology helps to relax muscles, including those of the pelvis & several women have reported that they felt their labour was improved by having reflexology treatments in the last trimester.

In fact several women have had treatment in the very late stages of pregnancy to help encourage the start of labour & avoid the need for induction by other methods.

It is essential that the therapist is well trained & experienced when treating pregnant women, as special considerations need to be made.

Please note that it is not recommended to have reflexology in the first Trimester of pregnancy.
